It is sort of funny, I have a dozen or more posts I should be making right now, but instead I am writing one of my ✒️ Fireside Codex entries. This codex came to me as an idea after interviewing one of my guests on the Polymath PolyCast, and they approached it a bit differently. However it stuck with me, and it also became quite apparent to me as a fan of Da Vinci how useful these could be.

Now of course I'm not saying I'm Da Vinci, but if his notebooks were released in his time the world would have been progressed hundreds of years ahead of schedule. Maybe one of my ramblings will inspire someone to do great things.

This isn't the only reason I write of course, but it was the motivation behind why I am writing THIS post today. These Fireside Codex aren't really "blogs" in the normal sense, as I don't particularly care about grammar in them, or the layout as much. I still tend to do decent at those just by sheer practice, but I try to go full flow of thought as best I can.

When I introduce myself to people I say "Writer, YouTuber, then Podcaster" now I add speaker to that as well, but the point being is that I say writer FIRST.

No matter who it is either, whether I'm talking to a video creator, podcaster, businessman, or anyone. If they ask about my content, or ask what I do.

Something about writing calls to me

There is something I've been saying a lot lately, and that is that regardless if I had chosen a different path. Say, Doctor for example, then I think at some point I still would have made some sort of content. More than just a medical journal, which is part of the gig, but something of a book. Perhaps I would have followed Ali Abdaal's route even.

Perhaps it is the expression, maybe its the way of being able to communicate async, or possibly something I haven't fully discovered about myself yet. I do love to teach, and that is even why I made my swimming newsletter 🏊 Mr. Dustin's Swim Academy. Let alone my 1000-ish blogs at this point in general.

There is a way of thinking that I don't get from video or audio content, that allows me to convey my ideas differently. Also when I get excited about some rabbit hole, it is a great way to express what I have learned, as well as share the links. I.e. Pokemon Recomp and Voxel 3D for example.

How do I make my posts?

It is usually one of two ways, either through a long slow burn over time, or just all at once. Today's post for example is just one fell swoop, I might pause here or there to contemplate what I want to say, but its all in one go.

The backburner approach is interesting. Some posts I have an idea for, and I might not get to it for years, there was a few posts I came up with back in 2018 when I really started PolyInnovator, and for some reason or another I never did them. Then I finally did almost a decade later this year!

90-95% of my ideas don't get scrapped, they just get put on ice if I don't make them.

There's been a few I decided to delete, as the timing was gone, but even then I might change it for the modern version. When I started I wanted to make a series for "how to be an influencer", and because of my skill level I couldn't make that much content that quickly. Now I could do it in a weekend, it was a series that I wanted to batch. I could have done it, but I was distracted by the podcast.

By the time I had the ability to do it, or time, then the WORD influencer lost its meaning. People don't really care about it anymore, and so I changed it to "modern content creator". That is what I teach on the creator newsletter and youtube channel, 🔧 The Content Polymath - OmniChannel Content.

It was also transformed into this series How to Be a Modern Content Creator Mini Series.

Meaning I might do a post all at once, built over time piece by piece, or I might do a batch load in one go.

What's next?

I've been saying for years, MANY YEARS, that I will write books. Yet that hasn't happened, I have written a lot of them, about at least half of my swimming book for example. Plus a good third or so of the 💪 Polymathic Exercise book.

Now that I have my laptop, plus an obsidian writing streak plugin, and obsidian opens automatically with a linux command. I think the process of me getting to the writing habit will be a lot simpler.

I'm getting closer and closer to a thousand blog posts, which is really exciting. Not fully certain what I'm going to do to celebrate that win.
