Much like the AI boom itself, or the artificial intelligence tool market. This post is more than likely subject to change. I remember when the AI boom happened in late 2022, and early 2023.
ChatGPT became all the rage, and then other tools started using it for other purposes. Related: The Rise...and Potential of ChatGPT.
A post that I have been thinking about for a while is that ChatGPT (and other chatbots like it) is more of a generalist. Can be an expert in a field, but not necessarily masterful at it. Whereas a number of tools came out of the ai boom, as specialist ai in those niches. I.e. OpusClip in AI editing.
#10 - ChatGPT, Claude
Let's get some of the general chatbots out of the way. The only reason that Gemini makes it to the next step higher is how it is integrated with Pixel phones (and androids), as well as home speaker devices.
ChatGPT started it all, and has a ton of integrations that extend the feature set.
Claude sometimes has more logical responses to certain queries, and for a number of people I've been told it does better at vibe coding.
#9 - Gemini
I put this one at a higher ranking simply because it can do more.
While a lot of people love GPT's extensions, and Claude with its coding.
Gemini is built into pretty much every Android smart phone. It replaces Google Assistant, for better or worse. However pretty much everyone on Pixels especially, will use it a lot more than other AI tools. Simply due to it being right there.
#8 - DeepSeek
While my experience with this is limited, they keep out performing the other AI's over and over.
There is competition in the space, and I think the west is underestimating the east on this frontier.
#7 - Leonardo.ai
This was one of the early tools on the AI image generation market. I messed with it closer to when it came out, and it was great even back then. It has only improved since then.
#6 - Perplexity
An aggregator of AI models in one place. In the past I have used it as well, as it was the best way to engage with various chatbots.
They offer a lot when it comes to being able to use one LLM for one task, then use another one for a different task.
#5 - Adobe Firefly
Again like Perplexity but for video generation models. You can pull from any of the popular tools, but all in one place.
Find that VEO does better at this particular type of video over "X"? Then use it.
Another model does better at a different type of animation? Switch over just like that.
#4 - OpusClip
Unlike a lot of the other content repurposing tools on the market this one actually really embodies the AI element. While many of them came out after Opus, and sort of used the same ChatGPT workflow that Opus started with. The difference is now they have moved beyond just a text based solution (although that is refined too), and even have a ClipAnything model, which can basically clip nearly any video.
They are also working on a few additional features/tools, such as a video generator, AI co-editing agent, and more.
#3 - Mem AI
The only knowledge management or note taking tool on this list today. No NotebookLM today!
Mem was one of the first PKM tools to really bring in AI in the foundation of how the tool operates on a basic level.
Keeping track of every little detail for you.
#2 - Sora
It came out swinging with its own Tiktok-like feed for AI generated video. I think this is important to note for a few reasons. Firstly it gets people used to the idea of scrolling through content that is AI generated.
It makes use of the meta right now in the social media landscape, that of the tiktokification of all of the platforms.
Then finally, it also creates a social network of people who like using AI. Combining the best aspects of social communal creation.
#1 - Runway
Still just one of the best image and video generation platforms. While it competes with Sora, and maybe down the line I'll have to update this list because of some monumental shift.
I think right now that a ton of people still sleep on this tool.
